Dola Whorton, 85, passed away Friday evening, August 17, 2012, at the Valley View Villa Nursing Home in Fort Morgan, CO. She was born February 12, 1927, in Greenwood, ARK, to W. T. & Myrtle Wilson. After graduating from Fort Smith High School, Dola married Allen Whorton on March 20, 1948, in Yuma, AZ. The Whorton family lived in the LaJunta, CO for many years. Dola worked for the LaJunta School District as a cook. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. She will be remembered by many for the cookies she made. She was a member of the River of Life Church in Ordway, CO. Survivors include her husband, Allen of Fort Morgan; 4 children, Sandra Thieme of Littleton, CO; Linda Whorton – Taylor of Raton, NM, Allen Whorton Jr. of Little River, KS, and Curtis Whorton, of Fort Morgan; 1 brother, Troy Wilson of Crescent City, CA; 1 sister, Faye Tidwell of Fort Smith, ARK; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers, 4 sisters, and her parents. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the River of Life Church in Ordway. The service will conclude at the Church.
