Donald William Dobbins, 97, of Ft. Morgan, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. Don was born October 24, 1917 in Tryon, Nebraska to Omer and Gladys Dobbins. Omer died when Don was very young. His mother later married Ira Cumpston. Don said it was his prayer that all step-children could have a step-father as good and kind as Ira was to him. Don graduated from the University of Nebraska with a law degree. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his hitch in the Navy, he returned to Tryon and married the love of his life, Rose E. Shimmin on August 9, 1950. He was County Treasurer in Tryon for several years. From 1963 until 1980 Don and Rose owned and operated the Park Terrace in Ft. Morgan. In 1980 they sold the motel and retired in Willows, California until 2000 and then returned to Fort Morgan where they lived ever since. Don was an active member of the Platte Valley Church in Fort Morgan where he was financial secretary for many years. He enjoyed going to church, working puzzles, painting, and drawing. He had a fine appreciation for Lincoln cars and always owned one. Don loved his family and they were very special to him, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Rose, three sons, Donald Dobbins and wife Susan, Daryl Dobbins and wife Cyndi, and Doug Dobbins and wife Suzanna, all of Fort Morgan, two daughters, Deb Korby and husband Tim, and Diane Thomas, all of Fort Morgan, six grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his by his parents, one sister Ona Troyer, his brother, Ray, an infant brother Howard, great grandson, Zabian Ray Lujan and his step-father Ira Cumpston. There will be a visitation on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 4 until 7 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Platte Valley Baptist Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
