Don worked for many years for Morgan County where he operated heavy equipment before he retired in 2006. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and taking trips to the mountains with his beloved wife. He was especially fond of family camping trips in the Flat Top Wilderness near Yampa, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, parents, Elizabeth and Conrad Geist, brothers, Alex, Edward, and John Geist, sisters Dorothy Klauser and Lydia Fulk, and half-brother Reuben Blum.

As well as sisters, Ruth Mock and Bonnie and Barbara Geist and brother Raymond Geist.
