Obituary

Donald C. Price, 79, passed away suddenly in the emergency room at Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was born April 21, 1934, at his grandparents' home near Nekoma, KS to Clovis T. & Mabel L. (Schenk) Price. His elementary education was in La Crosse, KS, the first year staying with an aunt & uncle, and then attended second through sixth grades in country schools. In seventh grade the country schools consolidated with the Rozel School District, located sixteen miles from his parents' farm. He graduated from Rozel High School, attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS for one year and earned his Bachelor of Music Degree from Fort Hays State College in Hays, KS. Don married Loretta Mae Smith on January 31, 1953, in Larned, KS. He was a very active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He was also a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, and the Morgan County Community Concert Association and the Morgan Community College Center for Arts & Community Enrichment (CACE). His first employment as a teacher was in Hugoton, KS. After 3 years, he and his family moved to Brush, CO where he taught ten years in the Brush Schools Music Department. In 1962, Don graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Master's Degree in Music. From 1969 until 1984, Don taught instrumental music to the Fort Morgan sixth grade beginners and Junior High School and assisted with the FMHS instrumental music. He retired in 1984. After his retirement from teaching, Don worked as a bailiff in the Morgan & Washington County Court System. In 1961, Don became a certified piano technician. He was an avid fisherman, loved to play golf, and bowled on a bowling league. Most of all he loved to read – a book was always with him on his trips. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Loretta of Fort Morgan; 3 children, Gary, and his wife Kay of Skokie, IL; Ron and his wife Dianna of Rozel, KS; and Tia Bowen of Elizabeth, CO; 3 brothers, Bill Price of Rozel, KS, Frank Price of Burdett, KS, and Kenneth Price of Arkansas City, KS; 7 grandchildren, Erin Jackson, Megan O'Brien, Meryl Trefethen, Kevin Price, Ruth Price, Brenda Trimble, and Reginal Bowen and 8 great grandchildren, Kayla, Josiah, Elias, Jaden and Kirk Jackson; Amelie Trefethen; and Trey and Caydence Trimble. He was preceded in death by his son, David Price; 1 sister, Kayla Vulgamore; and his parents. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 1:00 PM at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the Heer Chapel in Fort Morgan on Monday from 3 – 7 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer or the charity of the donor's choice.
