Donald Marion Salisbury, 83, passed away, Friday, February 3, 2012 at his home in Brush, Colorado. He was born June 4, 1928 in Montrose, Colorado to Walter and Maybelle Salisbury. Don grew up in Montrose and worked as a carrier on a paper route, in a bakery, and in a local grocery store. He graduated from Montrose High School in June of 1946 at the end of WWII. With his parents help, Don opened a grocery store. After three years of developing "Dons Groceries" he enlisted in the US Navy in 1948, serving in various locations, including Saipan, in the Marianas Islands (close to Guam), for the next four years. In the Navy, Don served as storekeeper and decided he liked to work with figures. He received an " early out" Honorable Discharge in order to start college in September of 1952 at Western State College in Gunnison. Don majored in Business Administration and Accounting and graduated in June of 1956. While at WSC he married his college sweetheart, Patricia Graham. Salisbury worked in Denver for three years after graduation with a CPA company. He then started his own business in Grand Junction. He worked in Grand Junction for the next ten years before returning to Western State College to study for his Masters in Business Administration. He majored in accounting and received his diploma in August of 1969. Don taught a Western State for 17 years before taking an early retirement. He was offered another teaching position at Kearney State College in Nebraska and taught there until August of 1991. He returned to Gunnison for two years before moving on to become a volunteer with the Roving Volunteers In Christ's Service Organization. Don and Pat traveled for 10 years in about 10 different states doing repairs and maintenance work in bible camps, churches, and Christian colleges. They also worked in the RVICS Headquarters Office and RVICS Village in Smithville, Texas for 4 year before moving to Brush in 2008. Don enjoyed four-wheeling, working outside, landscaping, and rock hunting. In his spare time he made a rock waterfall in his yard. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia, of Brush, CO; his son, Scott Salisbury and Vickie, of Arvada; his daughter, Carol Jones and son-in-law, Doug, a grandson, Conagher, and a granddaughter, Sadie, all of Brush, CO and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Marjorie Moyer. A memorial service will be Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Hillrose Community Church in Hillrose. The service will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to RVICS at 1800 SE 4th Street, Smithville, Texas 78957, or to the Hillrose Community Church at PO Box 92, Hillrose, CO 80733. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Heer & Dahl Crematory.
