Donald G. Speaker, 80, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at his home in Weldona. Don was born February 14, 1930 to George and Minnie (Wells) Speaker on their ranch east of Briggsdale near Buckingham. He attended and graduated from the Briggsdale High School in 1948. On October 4, 1953 he married his sweetheart, Doris Marie Buhring in Greeley. Don served his country in the United States Army in Germany from 1954 thru 1955 with the 27th Transportation Battalion, 109 Med. Trk. Petrol Company. Don and Doris moved to the farm in Weldona in 1964. Speaker was an active member of the Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church in Goodrich. He served his church as an elder, a deacon and was a member of the Men's group. Don loved ranching and any work that could be done on horseback. He clerked several sale barns and his children still believe he would have made a fine auctioneer, but his passion was spending time with his family. Survivors include three sons, Gary Speaker and wife Kimmi of Orchard, Guy Speaker and wife Laura of Illif and Russell Speaker and wife Brenda of Briggsdale, one daughter, Debra Speaker of Weldona, one sister, Doris Henrickson of Greeley, one brother, Rodney Speaker of Ft. Collins, 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren with one grandchild on the way. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Doris. There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 3 until 5 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 10, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church in Goodrich. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Ft. Morgan.
