Dr. Donald Werning Tibbetts, 93, lifelong area resident, died Saturday at his home in Ft. Morgan. He was born July 17, 1919 in LaHarpe, Kansas to Ray and Charlotte Estelle (Werning) Tibbetts. Don married Meta Marie Helmreich on August 9, 1942 in Boonville, Missouri. They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. He graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in 1937, attended the University of Denver and then graduated from the University of Missouri Dental School in 1943. Tibbetts served his country as a Captain in the Army Dental Corp. from 1943 until 1946. Shortly after Don got out of the service he joined his father's dental practice in Ft. Morgan where he practiced for over 41 years. Don was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the American Dental Association, a life member of the Colorado Dental Association, charter member of the Society for Preservation of Oral Health, was inducted into the International College of Dentistry, was a member of the Ft. Morgan Lion's Club, the Ft. Morgan School Board, and a charter member of the Empire Reservoir Boat Club. Don's talents and interests were, photography, creating stained glass art, jewelry making and woodworking. The things he made out of wood included boats, gun stocks, chess sets and children's toys. He also enjoyed the outdoors and played golf, liked to fish and hunt, and go boating and water skiing. He loved family trips and celebrations and they were a special part of his life. He is survived by, his wife Meta of Ft. Morgan, four daughters, Denna Weber of Ft. Morgan, Jane Milner of Tyler, Texas, Jone Lockhart of Holden, Missouri, and Charlotte McCracken of McKinney, Texas, one son, Mike Tibbetts of Ft. Morgan, one sister, Charlotte Gaut of Williamsburg, Virginia, one brother, Dr. Richard Tibbetts of Ft. Morgan, 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Rae Thompson, an infant son, Thomas Edward Tibbetts and his sister, Raedeen Perdue. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 6 until 8pm at the Heer Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or to the charity of one's choice
