Obituary

Donna Marie (Ververs) Smith 81 of Fort Morgan, CO passed away on June 26, 2022, at her home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.  She was born to Paul and Alice (Rogers) Ververs on March 23, 1941.

Donna graduated from Fort Morgan High School, while in high school she participated in the drill team, Civil Air Patrol, attended camps at Lowry Airforce Base, and Warren Airforce base.

She married David Wayne (Sonny) Smith on August 30, 1958.  They were life members of the Elks Lodge.  They had 3 children: David, Lori, and Eric.  She volunteered at The Wildlife Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO for 20 years and The Denver Zoo for 17 years.  Her favorite job at the zoo was the Senior Safari.  She was able to take small ambassador animals to programs at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  She fostered orphan kittens from the Humane Society.  She was a member of Friends of the Library for 10 years.  She loved walking at Muir Springs.  She was a kind and compassionate soul who loved animals especially big cats.

Donna loved to travel; her dream was to visit all 50 US States-which she was just short of doing.  She loved to take her grandchildren and great grandchildren on trips and see the different zoos around the United States.

She is survived by her husband Wayne Smith of Fort Morgan, daughter Lori (Smith)Harris of Greeley CO, her Son Eric Smith of Washoe Valley, NV.  Her grandchildren Korin Mashek, Joshua Mashek (Miranda), Cameron Mashek, and Zachary Mashek all of Greeley CO, and Christopher Smith (and his wife Chanelle) of Redding, CA.  Her 4 great grandchildren Kiara Camacho, Janiah Camacho, Aden Camacho, and Ezekiel Mashek. A great-great grandson Giovanni Gomez and a great-great granddaughter Nalani Camacho. Her sisters Paula (Tom) Yost of Fresno, CA and Vicki (Doak) Duke of Ft. Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.  Her cats Mogali, Zoe, and Risky. She was preceded in death by her father Paul Ververs, her mother Alice Ververs, and her son David Wayne Smith Jr.

There will not be any services at this time.  In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to an animal shelter of your choice.
