Obituary

Doris Lavann Kissler, 89, passed away June 8, 2024 at Pathways Hospice Care Center in Fort Collins with her family nearby.

Doris was born at home in Cedar Butte, South Dakota on December 4,1934 to Lorne Halligan and Helen (White) Halligan. Doris was the oldest of three sisters. The Halligan family moved to the Roggen, Colorado area when Doris was about 4 years old, where her father worked on a dryland wheat farm. Doris went to Kiowa school then transferred to Prospect Valley High School where she graduated at the age of 16 in 1951. She worked in the Greeley ASC (Agricultural, Stabilization and Conservation Service) office as a secretary until she married David Kissler on March 23, 1957 in Denver in the midst of a dust storm. Dave and Doris had two children, Lorinda Sue and James Alan. They lived in the Byers area where Dave farmed and ranched until 1967 when they moved to the Brush-Fort Morgan area where they continued farming as well as raising pigs. Doris began working at Brush Livestock Exchange in the office during their weekly livestock sales in the early 1970's. She eventually began working there full-time and retired in 1996 as head bookkeeper. While many sales went into the wee hours of the morning, she enjoyed visiting with the cattle buyers and sellers and working with the people at Livestock Exchange.

Doris enjoyed vegetable gardening and freezing and canning the resulting bounty. She also spent many enjoyable hours with a book in hand. Later in life, she began doing cross-stitch and completed many beautiful projects (one of which is behind her in the photo) that she shared with friends and family.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wanda and Sharon, half brother Charles Sharp, daughter-in-law Brenda Kissler, and husband, Dave.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorrie and Mark Anderson, and by her son, James Kissler as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doris will be inurned at Fort Morgan Cemetery in a private ceremony.  A memorial service will be held at a future date.
