Doris Rhodes, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, born October 27th, 1938, passed on September 29, 2026, at the age of 87.
Doris Born on October 27, 1938, in West Point Illinois, to Lee R. Hoffman and Ruth Anthony Clampitt Hoffman. She grew up with her brother, Leroy Junior Hoffman, both were always together making crazy chaos on the farm. That is where she learned about values of family, and hard work.
On January 10, 1964 Doris married the love of her life, Dean Richard Rhodes in Illinois. This was the beginning of two beautiful souls coming together to create a life filled with love, family, laughter and many years of shared countless memories. In 1972, Dean and Doris made the journey to Colorado to begin a new chapter of their lives. Colorado became their home. Family was at the heart of Doris’s life and she treasured the time she spent with the people she loved.
Doris had a way of making ordinary moments feel special. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family, friends and the familiar thing she loved. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and different crafts here and there. Friends and family often came to Doris with sewing projects, and she was always happy to help-freely.
Her hands were rarely still. Doris loved sewing, gardening, canning, cooking and enjoying spending time outdoors. She could often be found sitting on her porch swing watching the squirrels and the birds as well as keeping an eye on what’s happening throughout the neighborhood. She enjoyed reading Romanic novels, watching good western shows and playing a good game. Whether it was dominoes, bingo or Uno, she enjoyed the laughter, competition, and companionship that came with gathering around the table. And if you played a card game with Doris, you probably already knew she was pretty sure she was going to win.
Her love for people extended beyond her family. Doris gave her time to her community in many ways. She served as Girl Scout leader, participated in PTO, was involved with the Red Hat Club, and took part in activities such as Relay for Life and bowling. She Retired on February 3rd, 2019 from the hospital where she worked 30 plus years in many different departments.
Doris leaves behind her daughter, Deborah Ann Rhodes Horan, and son-in-law Rick Horan. She was a proud grandmother to Alicia Horan (Josh Arndt), and Jessica Horan Daniel (Justin Daniel). Great grandmother to Raylynn Calderon. She will also be remembered by her cousin, close friends, extended family and all those fortunate enough to have shared a part of her life. Her beloved pets, Lucky and Mitsy. Doris’s life was a collection of simple moments made beautiful by the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, and forever cherished.
A visitation will be on Wednesday, October 7th from 4-6 PM at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8th at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
