Doris Betty Mae Flohr Thiel passed away peacefully at East Morgan County Hospital on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021.  Doris was born to Fred and Lydia (Kaufman) Flohr on May 6, 1926 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Doris attended Brush schools and graduated from Brush High School.  She married Henry (Hank) Thiel June 11, 1944.  Hank was the second oldest of twelve children, so Doris immediately became part of a large family.  German cooking and family reunions were a big part of Hank and Doris's life.

Doris and Hank had four children – Gerry, Bill, Tom and Deanna.  Doris's children and family were the light of Doris's life.

Doris worked for a drug store in Brush during her high school years.  She was the bookkeeper for her family's businesses.  She and Hank enjoyed traveling, especially their many trips to Mazatlan Mexico.  Doris and Hank also wrote a short book about "Two Youthful Seniors Gallivant Around Europe" highlighting their adventures.  Doris loved playing bridge, going to dutch hops (the love of which extended throughout her life and she watched polkas on television to the very end), and playing scrabble (she and Hank would play for hours in heated contests).  Doris also loved playing golf and one of the wonderful stories she liked to tell was of her hole in one at hole 8 at the Fort Morgan golf course on June 7, 1999.  She always had her recognition plaque of the hole in one hanging on her wall wherever she was.  Doris liked to paint (especially landscapes) and passed her artistic abilities on to her children.  She continued her passion for painting well into her 90's.

Doris and Hank were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan where they were very involved in the activities and growth of the church.  Doris had resided at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center for the past nine years in assisted living.  She enjoyed attending church services at Eben Ezer's All Saints chapel, often accompanied by her granddogs Misty and Willow.

Doris is survived by her children Gerry (Janna) Thiel of Fruita Colorado, Bill (Gloria Bing) Thiel of Fort Morgan, Tom (Becky) Thiel of Fort Morgan, Deanna (Steve) Thompson of Redmond Washington.  Her grandchildren are Marty, Scott, Greg, Jason, Jon, Jeston, Jason, Christal, Brooke, Britteney, Tommy, Emily and Stephen.  She is also survived by her brother Don (Phyllis) Flohr of Everett Washington and sister-in-law Nina Flohr of Windsor Colorado, numerous brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews and 22 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hank, her older sister Ruth Berryman, and her younger brother Mike Flohr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1100 West Platte Avenue in Fort Morgan.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan.   A reception will follow at Everlasting Life Church, 16756 CR 18 in Fort Morgan.

Doris's family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to EMCH and Eben Ezer staff (including Chaplain Ro Fessler) for the care their mom and Grandmother received these past years.  The compassion shown to her and the care she received will not be forgotten.
