Dorothy Marie Helzer, 72, Longtime area resident, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at her home in Ft. Morgan. Dorothy was born at their family home on February 7, 1936 near Keenesburg, Colorado to Dustin R. and Midia V. Hart. She graduated from Wiggins High School in 1954. Dorothy married Darwin "Fritz" Helzer on June 14, 1954 in Raton, New Mexico. They moved to Ft. Morgan in 1979 from Weld County. Dorothy liked Polka music, dancing and was a member of a garden club at one time. She liked to crochet, knit and sew. She enjoyed making ornaments out of wood, watching the birds in her garden and cooking; pies were one of her specialties. Survivors include her husband Fritz of Ft. Morgan, two sons, Kenneth Helzer of Ft. Morgan and Dusty Helzer of Pierce, one daughter, Tammy Helzer of Snowflake, Arizona, three brothers, Leroy Hart and Leo Hart both of Masters and Raymond Hart of Genoa, Wisconsin, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Peggy Sue. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. The visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 2 until 5 PM. at the mortuary.
