Dorothy Jean (Wolever) Leis went to glory on October 24, 2026 with loving family by her side. She began this life on October 6, 1930 as the first-born child of Scott Russell and Inez (McConnell) Wolever of Antelope Springs, Colorado. Her childhood & elementary years were on the family farms of the area.
Her high school years at Snyder brought many life-long friends, through which she met her husband, George Jacob Leis. They were married on June 6, 1948, where one of her lifelong friends, Phyllis Woodward served as an attendant. The newlyweds began life together in Brush where Jake worked as an auto mechanic, later moving north to work with Dorothy's father on the farm. In 1961 they purchased their own ranch where Dorothy lived until her death. Four sons were born to Jake & Dorothy and in an effort to stretch the family budget, she began haunting the sales and auctions for furniture to refinish and resell. This passion became a full-time antique business which took her and Jake on many adventures and trips over thousands of miles. Oh, the friends they met and the memories they made.
In later years, Dorothy and Jake spent winters in Arizona with family and making new friends there. After Jake passed away in 2005 Dorothy continued to snowbird for several years.
When she returned to Colorado for good, she became involved with her circle of widowed friends at Snyder Bible Church which gave her fellowship and a competitive spirit at games. Dorothy spent many, many hours making photo albums and sharing her love of genealogy. As the family historian she was always seeking more photos or documentation to include in her albums. Even after her health limited mobility she continued to reach people with her poems, stories and cards.
Dorothy was assured of her destination in heaven because of her acceptance of what Jesus had done for her, not what she had done for Him, though those deeds were many.
Dorothy Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jake; parents Scott and Inez Wolever; her step-mother Helen; her brother Paul Wolever; brother Don Young; sister Delores (Young) Cox; and nephew Craig Wolever.
She is survived by her sister Dianne Littlefield, sister-in-law Sharon Wolever and her sons Scott (Jan) Leis of Redfeather, CO; Mike (Susan) Leis of Clarendon, TX; Dan (Cindy) Leis of Merino, CO; and Jeff (Debbie) Leis of Mariposa, CA; as well as her twelve grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren and many more nieces and nephews
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Heer Mortuary in Brush from 4:30 - 5:30 PM.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Snyder Bible Church, 22622 Fisher Ave., Snyder, Colorado.
