Dorothy Schrum, 88, lifelong Ft. Morgan resident, died Monday evening at the Valley View Villa in Ft. Morgan. She was born August 23, 1923 in Cheyenne Wells to Henry and Rosa (Schrum) Gentz. Dorothy's mother died when she was young. Joseph and Josie Helget took Dorothy in as one of their own children. She worked at Eben Ezer in housekeeping among other jobs she had, but most important to her was taking care of her children. She enjoyed baking, cooking meals for family and growing flowers. She especially enjoyed dancing and listening to polka music. She is survived by her children; Harold Goedert of Ft. Morgan, Sharlet Yearous of Sterling, Melvin Schrum, Lawrence Schrum, Alvina Schrum, Michael Schrum, Linda Dahl, Ronald Schrum, and Rex Rucker all of Ft. Morgan, and Judie Johnston of Rancho Mirage, CA, 23 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Spahn, her brothers and sisters; John, Fred, Adam, Martha and Marie, one granddaughter, one great grandson and her parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-6 at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. A funeral service will be held on Friday March 30th at 11:30 am at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.
