Obituary

Douglas Matthew Bullock, age 52, of Sterling, Colorado passed away on January 17, 2023.  He was born March 11, 1970 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Ron and Cathie Bullock.

Doug grew up in Fort Morgan and graduated with the class of 1988.  He was always active and industrious. He enjoyed sports where he challenged himself!  He was involved in the cross country and wrestling programs in high school and appreciated the camaraderie of those sports!  He also loved riding BMX bikes. He built his own half-pipe for his friends and him to enjoy.   During those teen years,  his spiritual journey was nurtured in the United Methodist Church through Sunday School and youth group. He had many loving Christian mentors during those years!  He trusted Jesus as his Savior and shared his witness with many people with whom he came in contact.

He attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado for two years then transferred to Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado graduating in December, 1993 with a degree in Industrial Science and Technology.

Doug started riding bulls around 1990, inspired by friends from his Northeastern Junior College days and in FarmHouse Fraternity.  He immediately loved the intensity of the experience and the challenge, not just that presented by the bull but also by the need for strength of mind.  He rode for the Colorado State University rodeo team in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, and later got his Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association permit.   Even with some serious injuries along the way, Doug loved the thrill of bull riding!

Doug was involved in many work interests during his adult life.  He worked in the oil fields, he fashioned creations in granite and marble at monument companies, and he learning about cattle while working at a feed lot.  He learned to construct water storage tanks and eventually had his own company which took him all around the country, to The Bahamas, and to Indonesia.  His last few years were spent in agriculture; farming with a dear friend.  Doug found great satisfaction in learning all that is involved in growing crops and raising cattle, during this time.

Doug was a sensitive and generous person who loved his God, his family and his country with all his heart!  He had many loyal friendships that lasted over all the years of his life!

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents:  Vernard L. Waters, Russell C. Bullock, W. Jean Waters, and Mary H. Bullock-Simon.

Survivors include his parents, his sister, Vanesa Bullock (Jim Gibbs) of Greeley, nieces, Emerson Lobato of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Roni Gibbs of Vail, Colorado, and several aunts, and uncles, and cousins.
