E. KEN ELKERTON, 78, of Fort Morgan, died early Wednesday morning, March 26, 2008 at his home. He was born December 12, 1929 in Fort Morgan, CO to Harry & Lura (Groves) Elkerton. He served in US Army from 1948 until 1952. He married Marjorie Bowes in Los Angeles, CA on December 15, 1950. They moved to Fort Morgan from Henderson, CO in 1997. Mr. Elkerton owned and operated his own trucking company, Rocky Mountain Transport ES Inc. for a number of years. He managed several transportation projects in Colorado such as hauling large ventilation systems to the Eisenhower Tunnel, concrete for the Aurora Mall, and rail for the light rail system in south Denver. He has worked in the trucking business since the 1940's. He enjoyed woodworking and doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid reader, enjoyed politics, and especially liked spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Elkerton of Fort Morgan; three sons, Kenny & his wife Sally Elkerton of Fort Morgan, Chuck Elkerton & his wife Nelia of Akron, and Neal Elkerton & his wife Becky of Brighton; his daughter, Shawn Virgil of Wiggins; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lois Callaway, Eunice Bourquin, and June Elkerton; and one brother, Keith Elkerton. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 4 – 7 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 2nd at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Friends may make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 2255 South Oneida, Denver, CO 80224.
