Edith Mary Ficken, 78, longtime Ft. Morgan resident died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the Fairacres Manor Care Center in Greeley. She was born February 27, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Dorothy Cheyne. She married Donald L. Ficken on April 9, 1947 in Anniston, Alabama. Edith and Don moved to Ft. Morgan in 1947 and lived here until 2005 when they moved to Evans, Colorado to be closer to their family. Edith was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ft. Morgan for 58 years. She served her church as a teacher and superintendent for the Sunday School program, was a member of United Methodist Women, was a member and chairperson of the church board and sang in the Chancel Choir for over 40 years. She was in the PTA at Lincoln Elementary and was also a Campfire Girls Director for 11 years. Edith liked to sew and made most of the clothes her daughters wore when they were little. She also enjoyed painting, cake decorating, working with ceramics, the piano, singing, doing crossword puzzles and playing bridge. She is survived by 4 daughters, Linda Bunting and husband Darryl Bunting of Greeley, Mary Perry and husband Rev. Skip Perry of Wheatland, Wyoming, Dona White and husband Dr. Chris White of Commerce, Texas and Janet Edwards and husband Bill Edwards of Greeley, 1 sister, Mrs. Dorothy Wilkins of Little Rock, Arkansas, 3 brothers, Rev. John Cheyne of Highland Springs, Virginia, Rev. Bill Cheyne of Van Buren, Arkansas and Bob Cheyne of Bentonville, Arkaknsas, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Don and Jim Cheyne. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 16, 2006 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, October 15th from 2 until 5 pm at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Ft. Morgan.
