Edna Macht, 96, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.  She was born November 24, 1923, in Hillrose, CO to Jacob and Mary Mohrlang.  As a child, living on the farm, Edna and her three brothers and her sisters worked the sugar beet fields with their parents.  This was an occupation that went on well into her teens, as many family photographs can attest to.

Edna graduated from Roosevelt High School near Hillrose in 1941.  While attending high school, Edna played on the Roosevelt HS basketball team.  After high school, Edna followed her older sister, Irene, to Denver.  While living with Irene, she worked at an industrial laundry, operating a large steam presser.  Once, while working there, she got two of her fingers caught in the presser and was severely burned.  She never regained feeling in those fingers.  During WW II, Edna worked as a bullet inspector at an ammunition factory.  It was during this time that she learned of her love for dancing.  She began attending many of the Polka Parties that were an ingrained reflection of her German heritage.  It was at one of these "Dutch Hops" that she met her future husband, Peter J. Macht.  They were married on October 5, 1945 and later moved back to Morgan County, settling outside of Brush, on a Mohrlang family farm.  Eventually Pete and Edna moved from the farm into Brush.

Edna was a member of the Immanuel Congregational Church in Brush where, for a time, she taught Sunday School.  As an adult, she and her siblings were members of the Germans form Russia organization.  She continued her love of polka music and dancing, often being an active participant when her cousin, Adolph Lesser and the Polkatunes, were playing at the various dance halls in northeastern Colorado.  You could also find Pete and Edna waltzing the night away during the many Octoberfests that were sponsored by her brother, Harry Mohrlang, and that were for many years held at Mohrlang Manufacturing.  She was also an organizer of the yearly Mohrlang family picnics that were held every June to celebrate Mary Mohrlang's birthday.  Edna was an avid cook and baker, and was well known for her canning of pickles, beets and plum jelly.

Survivors include her 3 children, Beverly Ann, Judy, and Timothy.  Judy is married to Rick Erickson of Fort Morgan and Timothy is married to Dr. Katrina Macht of Montclair, New Jersey.  She has three grandchildren Heather, Matthew, and Sarah, and five great grandchildren Nathan, Noah, Diesel, Otto, and Huck all surviving her.  She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her great grandson, Axel, her sisters Helen, Alvina, Dorothy, and Irene, her brothers Jake, Harry, and Milton, and her parents.

There will be a public viewing on Thursday, April 30th, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.

A private family graveside and interment service will be held at the Brush Memorial Cemetery.  The family will have a celebration of life later this summer or fall.
