Edna
Swanson
Dec 16, 1939 — Jan 21, 2026
Edna Swanson, 86, of Brush, passed away on January 21, 2026 at Eben Ezer.
Edna was born December 16, 1939, to Hans and Myrtle (Hansen) Peterson at Eben Ezer Hospital. She was welcomed into the family by two older sisters, Bernice and Mildred.
Edna graduated from Hillrose High School in 1957. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Education (1961) and a Master's degree in Elementary Education (1977) from Colorado State College, now known as the University of Northern Colorado.
Growing up during World War II, Edna experienced a childhood shaped by simplicity and creativity. With limited access to toys and her older sisters often away from home, she developed a strong sense of imagination and independence. Much to her sisters' surprise, upon graduating from high school she received a car and a typewriter to prepare her for college life. As the youngest, she was always the adored baby of the family.
Through a close friend Edna was introduced to a young pastor, Fred Swanson. Fred and Edna were married on September 14, 1963, at the Assembly of God Church in Brush, Colorado. Together, Edna and Fred devoted their lives to ministry, planting churches in Hudson, Montbello, and Commerce City. Edna's life was marked by a deep work ethic, steadfast faith, and a heartfelt passion for influencing others to serve Christ.
Edna cherished her many friendships and delighted in bringing people together through gatherings and outings that filled her days with connection and joy. Through these relationships, her family grew in ways that extended well beyond blood alone. For Edna, the boundary between friend and family was gently blurred: many friends became family, and she herself was a dear and loyal friend to those she loved most.
Edna is survived by her sister, Bernice; nephews Ken (Gloria) Crosthwait of Austin, Texas, and John (Brenda) Crosthwait of Brush, Colorado; nieces Ann (Peyman) Zarezadegan of Greeley, Colorado, and Laura (Phil) Mendoza of Greeley, Colorado; 16 great-nieces and nephews, many great-great-nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Fred; her sister, Mildred; and two nieces.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, at Brush Church of the Nazarene, at 1:30 PM, followed by interment at Brush Memorial Cemetery.
Edna will be remembered for her faith, dedication to service, a loyal friend to many, love for family, and gentle, creative spirit.
