Edward L. Wahlert, 78, of Hillrose, CO passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Ed was born February 27, 1936 in Exira, IA, the son of Jim and Arlene Wahlert. The family moved to Hillrose, CO in 1946. Ed graduated from Hillrose High School in 1954 and married Charlene Giauque in 1955. They farmed between Hillrose and Brush for a year before Ed enlisted in the Air Force; after four years, spent mostly in California the family returned to Hillrose. In 1964 Ed went to work on the 22 Ranch between Hillrose and Merino and remained there for 50 years. Ed learned to be a cowboy from good friend Buck Jones and enjoyed "cowboying" for the rest of his life. He was employed at Brush Livestock Commission for 5 years and then at Livestock Exchange, Inc. for 25 years. Ed served as city councilman in Hillrose for 8 years and as Mayor of Hillrose for 3 years. He was instrumental in the design and construction of the Hillrose Petteys Estates Memorial Park. He was also a major factor in the Hillrose water projects. Ed is survived by his wife, Charlene, brother's Verne and wife Patricia of Brush, CO, Rich and wife Linda of Newport News, VA and sister Betty and husband Tom Wiemann of Exira, IA. Four sons, Rick and wife Karen of Hudson, CO, Jeff and wife Tanya of Grover, CO, Ron and wife Reenie of Maypearl, TX, Scot and wife Chelle of Galeton, CO; Twelve grandchildren, Seth & Allison, Dirk, Wes, Austin and wife Justine, Jessica, Ross and wife Jossie, Owen, Colt, Cassidy, Colby, Melissa and Jennifer and 6 Great Grand Children, Dakota Wryker, Raegan, Isaac, Sierra and Addison. Services will be held at Brush United Methodist Church, 1701 Edmunds Street, Brush, CO at 1:00 pm on Monday February 9, 2015. Military honors by the US Air Force will follow. Inurnment was in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Downs Syndrome Foundation or Hospice of the Plains both c/o the Heer Mortuary.
