Edwin J. Friehauf, 94, life resident of Morgan County, passed away early Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center where is was given much loving care by family, Eben Ezer staff, and Hospice of the Plains staff. He was born February 23, 1915, in Brush to William & Anna Elizabeth Friehauf. Ed married Lydia Reichert on January 10, 1937, in Brush. They had 5 children together. Lydia died in 1991. On November 14, 1992, Ed married Florence Buckmaster in Brush. She died in 1999. Ed loved farming, where he received recognition as the 1948 Colorado DeKalb high yield award. For several years he received the Great Western Sugar Company "High 10" sugar beet grower award and recognized as a top dealer for Pfister Hybrid Seed Company. He enjoyed feeding cattle and other livestock. He also liked to tinker and work in his blacksmith shop. When he retired, he began playing golf, an activity he enjoyed nearly everyday until his health forced him to quit. He also enjoyed working in his flower garden, growing gladiolas, chrysanthemums, and roses. He was a very active member of the Immanuel Congregational Church, where he served on the church board, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and sang with the men's quartet for decades. Survivors include his children, Edwin F., and his wife, Fran, of Cheyenne, WY, Robert E., and his wife, Myrna, of Fort Collins, Ronald Clyde, and his wife, Joy, of Brush, and Patricia Drzewiecki, and her husband, Jerry, of Jackson, MI; 2 brothers, Wilbert of Yakama, WA, and John of Brush; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his wives preceding him in death, Ed was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley P. Friehauf; 3 brothers, Carl, William, and Herbert; 3 sisters, Marie, Elizabeth, and Marguerite; and a special friend, Katie Campbell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Immanuel Congregational Church, Clifton & Everett Streets in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush on Tuesday from 2 – 6 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Immanuel Congregational Church c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
