Elizabeth "Betsy" Joan Allen Porter, 87, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Betsy was born on September 9, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry and Marian Allen. After living in New York for a time, the Allens moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1943 where Betsy grew up with her younger sister, Dorothy Ruthven (Gary), and went on to graduate from Los Alamos High School in 1955.

On April 21, 1956, Betsy married the love of her life, Larry Porter. Their marriage lasted nearly seventy years. Together, they raised four devoted children: Annie Porter, Harry Porter (Diane), Marian Dirks (Brad), and Carol Wethington (Kevin), who survive her. She took immense pride in her roles as wife, mother, and later, grandmother to 12 grandkids and great-grandmother to 19 great grandkids.

Betsy worked at Sears for 20 plus years, starting in Omaha in 1968 as a salesperson and working her way up to management. This work took Betsy and Larry to several cities in Nebraska and Kansas, until her retirement in 1988. Retirement wasn't for Betsy yet so she went to work for Alco in 1989. This company facilitated their eventual move to Fort Morgan, Colorado. She left Alco in 1998 and began more community service work by becoming the Director of the United Way of Morgan County.

Betsy's Christian faith was central to her life. She loved Jesus deeply and embodied those beliefs in all aspects of her life. Another devotion for Betsy was Al-Anon. She attended, participated in, and served as a leader in Al-Anon for 51 years. She lived the concepts and strategies of Al-Anon faithfully. Through Al-Anon she learned to accept life on life's terms (one of her favorite sayings!) until the very end.

As we remember Betsy, let us find comfort in the word. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it."
