Obituary

ELIZABETH KRENING, 104, of Fort Morgan, died late Wednesday night, April 16, 2008 at the Valley View Villa Care Center in Fort Morgan. She was born January 27, 1904 in Huck, Russia to Jacob & Katherina (Echerdt) Huck. The family came to the United States when she was three years old, making their home in Lincoln, NE. She married John Krening in Fort Morgan on April 4, 1924. Mr. & Mrs. Krening farmed in Fort Morgan for a number of years. They retired in 1967 and moved to town to a home on Lake Street. Mrs. Krening moved to Valley View Care Center in 2004 after she was no longer able to care for herself. Mrs. Krening was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan where she was also active in the Friendship Circle for a number of years. She enjoyed crocheting and caring for her rose garden. She was known as the "Noodle & Grebbel Lady". She loved to make homemade noodles and grebbel to sell. Angel food cakes and dina kugas were also among her favorite German recipes. Survivors include two sons, Elmer Krening and Ralph Krening, both of Fort Morgan; two sisters, Rose Spahn and Marie Hergert, both of Lincoln, NE; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her daughter, Ruth Berndt; one sister, Margaret Hergert; four brothers, John Huck, Adam Huck, Jake Huck, and George Huck; and one great granddaughter, Jennifer Sampson. Visitation will be Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 3 – 5 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral services will be Monday, April 21st at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of arrangements.
