Elmer E. Fuerst, 87, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014. He was born March 2, 1927, to Paul & Ardeth (St. Clair) Fuerst on the family farm southwest of Yuma, near Hyde, CO. Elmer attended elementary school at East Hyde in Washington County, and high school in Yuma. He joined the US Navy on April 21, 1945. On September 27, 1945, he married Selma Fisher in San Jose, CA. While serving in the US Navy, Elmer served as a hospital apprentice second class in San Diego, and later at the Shoemaker Hospital in Oakland, CA. Following his discharge on December 6, 1945, the Fuerst s moved back to Colorado. Elmer worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad in the track and station department for 42 years. They have lived in the Brush community since 1952. Elmer was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Sagebrush Post #68. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Selma of Brush; 1 daughter, Rosemary Hoffman of Fort Morgan; 2 sisters, Mary Allen and Dorothy Mitchell both of Yuma, CO; 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, George & Albert, and his parents. Memorial service will Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society c/o the Heer Mortuary in Brush.
