Obituary

Elmer Sagel, 82, died Dec. 30, 2007 at his home in Fort Morgan, Colo. He was born Aug. 23, 1925 to Henry and Emma (Propp) Sagel in Fort Morgan where he lived his whole life. Elmer married Ruth Christensen in Brush on Feb. 10, 1952. He worked for Culligan Water, Clatworthy's and McLagan's Creamery before going into farming southwest of Fort Morgan. He retired from farming in 1993. Elmer was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and served on church council, choir member and several other committees. He was a member of the Elks Lodge where he enjoyed special friendships, along with many hands of cribbage and poker. He served on the boards of Farmland Coop, Morgan County REA, TriState and the Bijou Irrigation System. Family and friends will remember Elmer for his homemade wine, peanut brittle, oatmeal raisin cookies, banana bread, cross-stitch work, his quick laugh and willingness to lend a hand. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2000; parents, Henry and Emma Sagel; and brother, Ed. Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Larry) Gilbert of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Barb Sagel of Denver; one son, John Sagel of Fort Morgan; two grandchildren, Michelle Gilbert of Fort Collins and Dan Gilbert of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Caroline Weimer of Denver; and one brother, Art Sagel of Fort Morgan; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-6 pm at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary. Funeral services are scheduled Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, in Fort Morgan.
