Elmo Eugene Steffen, 93, lifelong area resident, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. Elmo was born February 15, 1916 in Syracuse, Nebraska to John and Elizabeth (Whited) Steffen. He graduated from New Raymer High School in 1938. Elmo married Elva M. Northup on February 22, 1945 in Fort Morgan. Elmo was a member of the Lion's Club. He enjoyed fishing, and traveling in the mountains. He loved to sing and could also yodel. He also taught himself to play the guitar and violin. He was a farmer and then was a mechanic later in life. Survivors include his wife Elva of Ft. Morgan, one daughter, Donna Musgrave of Hoyt; one son, Ronald Eugene Steffen of Denver; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Elmo was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Carol Fiscus; three brothers, Kenneth, Dale and Earl Steffen and one sister Wava Engquist. A memorial service will be Monday, November 2, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan. The inurnment with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan.
