Elsie Pauline Cox, 94, longtime Morgan County resident, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, where she has lived since 2002. She was born August 27, 1914, in LaJara, CO, to Roy & Mattie King Davis. She graduated from LaJara High School. On May 19, 1934. Elsie married Joe I. Cox in Alamosa, CO. The Coxes moved to Bear River, CO, a coal mining community near Hayden, CO. After living in other mining towns in Colorado, they moved to the Trowel Ranch near Hillrose, CO in 1939. Shortly after Joe's death in 1971, Elsie moved to Brush. In June 1972 she began working as a dispatcher for the Brush Police Department, retiring in July, 1985. Elsie was a member of the WSCS and the Wesleyan Guild of the Hillrose Methodist Church, the Hillrose Extension Club and was a charter member of Entre' Nous of Hillrose. She enjoyed gardening and growing lots of flowers. She also enjoyed homemaking and with raising 5 children, she still found time to can and freeze large amounts of fruits and vegetables. One of her proud moments was receiving a Certificate of Merit from Western Farm Life in 1955 as Top Homemaker of her Home Demonstration Club. Elsie is survived by two son; Bob (Ruth) Cox and Ted Cox both of Brush; 3 daughters, Roberta (Charles) Collier of Arvada, CO, Patty Lue (Danny) Emhovick of Byram, MS, and Jeanette (Mel) Teter of Brush; 1 brother, Roy (Jean) Davis of Albuquerque, NM; 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren, and 13 great – great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Robert Davis, and her parents. Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church, 1701 Edmunds Street in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush on Thursday from 2 – 5 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.
