Elsie J. Fairchild, passed away at her home on Monday, May 14, 2007, after a year long battle with cancer. Elsie was active in the Fort Morgan area with careers in the mental health field for over 25 years. She began her career as a Social Worker in Special Education with the South Platte Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). After leaving BOCES, she opened her private counseling practice which she maintained for the past 10 years. Elsie's lifelong interests included gardening with a focus on culinary herbs, bicycle touring, river running, cooking and entertaining for her numerous friends and family. After the age of fifty, Elsie earned her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, participated in two Leadville 100 endurance mountain bike races on a tandem with her husband, Randy, and completed three half-marathons with her twin sister, Maggie. Elsie's immediate family includes her husband of 23 years, Randy Ballheim of Fort Morgan; her parents, Coy & Iris Fairchild of Seminary, Mississippi; her twin sister, Maggie Pyle of Mobile, Alabama, her sister, Judy Self of Arling, Texas; her brothers, Donald Fairchild of Opelika, Alabama, and Dale Fairchild of Seminary, Mississippi; her brother-in-law, Michael Ballheim of Lansing, Michigan; and her father & mother-in law, Bill & Dottie Ballheim of Fort Morgan. A memorial service will be conducted by the family at 10:00 AM at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church. The family requests that donations be made in Elsie's memory to Hospice & Pallative Care of North Colorado, 1106 6th Avenue, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
