Elsie Schippert Hood, 100, passed away peacefully, October 21, 2012 at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, Colorado. Elsie was born on December 25, 1911 to William & Anna Schippert in Atwood, Kansas to a large family. The entire family worked from dawn to dusk on the family farm. At age fourteen, Elsie and her family moved to Colorado in the Fall of 1926. Elsie married Edwin Hood on April 4, 1932 in Hugo, Colorado in the minister's home. To this union three daughters were born, Barbara Marie, Ruth Ann and Mary Louise. She and Edwin farmed and ranched and survived the Great Depression and the dust storms of the 1930's. They lived on the farm until they sold the farm in 1980 and retired and moved to Brush. Edwin passed away in 1988. Elsie resided at the home in Brush until 2008 when she moved to the Aladdin Assisted Living. There she loved playing dominoes with the "gals". Elsie was a loyal member at the Howard United Methodist Church in Last Chance, Colorado. She loved her quilting friends and tried to attend the weekly Wednesday quilt day. She was able to attend these activities until well into her 90's. Elsie is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Humphrey (Edward), Ruth LaBrouche (Remy) and Mary Bier (Jerry); grandchildren, Dee Jones-Lucier (Paul), Jim Humphrey (Shari), Mark Wissel, Debbie Thomas (Jon), Albert LaBrouche (Pam), Jean "John" LaBrouche (Tiffany), and Shelly Bier and great grandchildren, Sara Jones, Kaeli Humphrey, Luke Thomas, Josh Thomas, Garrett LaBrouche, Katelin LaBrouche, Tyler LaBrouche and one great-great grandson, Josiah Johnson. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Jean Davis, Scotty Hood and Audrey McFall. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin, five brothers and 3 sisters. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Brush United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
