Elsie C. Knox, 92, longtime Northeast Colorado resident, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the Haxtun Hospital in Haxtun, CO. She was born May 27, 1919, in Ulysses, KS to Frank & Ollie Coder. Elsie married Ervin L. Knox on June 11, 1938, in Lamar, CO. Mrs. Knox and her husband were long time residents of Brush, CO. They worked in agriculture, specializing in custom grain and hay grinding. She helped her family own and operate Knox Hay Grinding Company. The Knox family lived in the Brush area from 1939 until 1980 when they moved to the Haxtun community. Elsie encouraged all of her children to be active participants in the local 4-H club. Elsie attended the Buffalo Grass Church. She enjoyed music, working with her family's business, gardening, sewing, cooking, being with her miniature poodles, and most importantly spending time with her family. Elsie was a hard worker and enjoyed helping her son Alvin as they continued the grinding business; working up until the day she passed. Survivors include her children, Carolyn and husband Earl Ochampaugh of Garden City, KS, Earl and wife Wendy of Fort Morgan, Alvin of Haxtun, Dean of Brush and Denver, and Jean and husband Chuck Rosenfield of Denver; a sister-in-law, Doris Coder of Holly, CO; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great -great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 children; LaVern and Donna; 1 brother in-law; Clarence Coder, and 3 sister in-laws; Carrie, Barbara, and Stella; and her parents. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the Calvary Assembly of God, 1012 Eaton Street in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary on Thursday from 5 – 7 PM.
