ESTHER G. ALTSTADT, 99, died at Spring Creek Health Care Center in Fort Collins on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. She was born near Timnath, CO on December 22, 1913 to Mr. & Mrs. Abram Elliott. She graduated from Timnath High School in 1932 and then attended Aggies State University, (now CSU). She majored in Home Economics and graduated in 1936. Esther taught school in Kit Carson for two years and then in Fruitvale for two years before teaching in Fort Morgan for four years. Esther moved to Los Angeles, CA for six years where she owned and operated a ladies sportswear store. In 1950 she returned to Fort Morgan and taught school for 24 more years before retiring in 1974. Esther married Sam Altstadt on June 22, 1953 in Santa Cruz, CA. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the U.S. throughout their life together. Esther is survived by her stepdaughter, Edith Altstadt Bryen of Gold Beach, OR, 9 step grandchildren; and her brother, David Elliott of Fort Collins; five nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sisters, Beth Russell, Naomi Elliott; and her brother, Abe Elliott. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 23rd in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
