Ethel M. Dudde, 84, former Brush resident, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Bonell Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Greeley. Ethel was born February 26, 1926, in Liverpool, NY, to John & Christina (Segner) Dudde. She graduated from high school in Liverpool and from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio in 1948. Ethel received her master's degree in social work from Smith College School for Social Work in Northhampton, Mass. in 1957. Her first job was as a parish worker at a church in Toledo, Ohio. She then worked as a caseworker for the Lutheran Service Society in Pittsburgh for five years before graduate school. Following her graduate work she worked for many years as a psychiatric social worker in several child care facilities; seven years at a treatment center for disturbed children in Waverly, Iowa; ten years at a mental health center in Reading, PA; two years in Battle Creek, Michigan; three years in Fort Morgan where she worked for Centennial Mental Health and also in the Fort Morgan School District as a social worker for South Platte BOCES. While living in Brush, Ethel was the Director of Social Services at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center from 1984 until her retirement in 1991. She lived in Denver for a brief time working as a nanny and also at the Dept. of Human Services. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, AARP, and the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan. Her religious faith was always an important part of her life. She also considered a sense of humor vital. Her interests included photography, sewing, handcrafts, camping and traveling. In 1964, she spent four months traveling throughout Europe, visiting sixteen countries. In 1977, she spent ten months touring the United States and Canada in a motor home. She also enjoyed her cat. Ethel is survived by a niece, Norma Williamson of Vienna, Virginia and a dear friend, Deb Hansen of Fort Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, William Dudde; 2 sisters, Ruth Heck and Christina Smith and Deb's husband, Gordon. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 10:00 AM the Bonell Good Samaritan Nursing Home Chapel in Greeley. The services will conclude at the chapel. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley or the Bremwood Children's Home in Waverly, Iowa or to the donor's choice in her name.
