Eugene (Gene) Helmberger, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan. Born April 10, 1928 in Humphrey, Nebraska, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Helmberger, and four children, Diana Noonan of Denver, Richard Helmberger of Highlands Ranch, Jane Shur of Littleton, and Amy Bricker of Colorado Springs, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grand children, his sisters, Marge Blatt and Lou L'Heureux, his brother, Skip Helmberger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine. A studio photographer, he opened Gene's Studio in Fort Morgan in 1956 and retired in 1990. Gene enjoyed softball, golf, fishing, playing cards, traveling with his wife, Bonnie, and large family gatherings. He attended St. Helena's Catholic Church, was a member of the Fort Morgan Country Club and was active in the Fort Morgan Elks Club where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1963. He will be remembered as loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. A Rosary service will be held on Monday at 6:00 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at the Saint Helena Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the Serenity Falls Columbarium.
