Evelyn M. Chartier, 86, longtime Brush area resident, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. She was born September 24, 1925, in Sioux Falls, SD to Jens & Anna Lerager. In 1939 the Lerager family moved to the Brush area. Evelyn graduated from Brush High School in 1943. She attended Grand View College in Des Moines, IA for two years. In 1947 she married Charles Edward Herrmann. Following his death, Evelyn later married James Pierce in 1985. After his death, she married Edward Chartier in 1996. Evelyn had worked in a Seattle, WA Public Library, and had served as the Librarian for the East Morgan County Library and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also was a former school teacher at the Antelope Springs School north of Snyder. She had served as a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross and was a CNA at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center for several years. Evelyn was a very active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry, listening to music and playing the piano; and was a history buff, especially enjoying reading about Civil War events and Colorado Pioneers. Survivors include her children, Marian Greenway of Denver, Carolyn Flaharty and her husband, Randy of Denver, Charlie Herrmann and his wife, Barb of Milliken, CO, Patricia Turner and her husband, John of Brush, Beth Olsen and her husband, Tony Olivera of Pinetop, AZ, Larry Herrmann of Ault, CO, and Annette Berhost of Sterling, CO; her step-children, Larry Chartier of Brush, Donna Chartier of Durant, OK, Barbara Refior of Plano, TX, and Garry Chartier of Prescott, AZ; her grandchildren, Gabriel Nicles, Ole Nicles, Orin Flaharty, Amara Flaharty, Aurea Flaharty, Amy Taylor and her husband, Doug, Heather Herrmann, Jenny Durbano, Evey Post and her husband, Ernie, John Turner and his wife, Jennifer, Jens Butler and his wife, Holly, Kai Butler, Lars Butler, Karli Peacock, Jeremy Berhost and his wife, Tiffany, and Bill Berhost and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 3 husbands; 1 sister, 4 brothers, and her parents. A funeral service will be Friday, July 6, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service.
