Pastor Frank Hogeland, age 84, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO following a lengthy illness. He was a resident of Morgan County for 40 years and the Pastor of Grace Bible Church in Fort Morgan for 38 years. Frank was born Dec. 20, 1930 in Trenton, NJ to Newlin and Hilda (Yerkes) Hogeland while the family was living in Newtown, PA. He was raised on the family farm in Davisville, PA and attended school in Southampton, PA. He continued on to Penn State University where he studied engineering and belonged to the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity for 2 years before his dad called him back to help on the family farm. Frank met Dorothy Hallowell in high school and they were later married on May 5, 1951 at Abington Friends Meeting. Together they had five children: Katherine "Kathy", Wayne, Caroline "Carol", Barbara and Ruth. Frank was led to the Lord at the age of 16 by a retired school teacher who visited him while he was working for his dad in a hay field. He graduated from Philadelphia College of the Bible and was ordained in the Davisville Baptist Church in 1964. He pastored congregations in Edler CO, Yuma CO, St. Francis KS and owned a dairy farm for 3 years in Waterside, PA before moving to Ft. Morgan in June of 1975. He had a love for farming, gardening, training horses, helping his children with their 4-H animals, leading youth groups and later spending time with his grandchildren. He loved the Lord and deeply cared about leading youth to the Lord. He was very involved in pastoring at and helping establish Camp Salvation and later, after moving to Fort Morgan, was involved with Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je and Homestead Bible Camp. He also had a love for the Awana program responsible for leading many children to the Lord. He and his wife owned and operated a Sears store in Brush for several years and raised AKC registered German Shepherd dogs. He helped many people in their times of need and genuinely cared about them. He was a friend to many. In the words of Billy Graham "The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith." Frank leaves such a legacy. He was a man of strong character, integrity and faith. Frank is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; sisters Jane Darling of PA, Hilda "Sis" Sheffield of PA and Elizabeth "Liz" Pope (Charles) of DE; brother-in-law Penrose Hallowell (Trish) of PA; children Kathy Carman (Robbie) of Akron, Wayne (Margret) of CA, Carol Konkel (Zaylan) of Vilas, CO, Barbara Brown of Snyder and Ruth Larson of CA along with several nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Sally Hogeland, brother-in-law Russel Darling, nephew Frank Darling, niece Christine Maven (Darling); brother-in-law William Sheffield; brother-in-law James Ward; father-in-law; Joseph Hallowell Sr.; mother-in-law; Elizabeth Hallowell; sister-in-law, Katherine Davis; brother-in-law; Joseph Hallowell Jr.; sister-in-law Clara Hallowell; and niece Susan Hallowell. A memorial service will be held at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Tues., June 2nd at 2:00pm with a reception following in the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center sunroom in Brush.
