Fred H. Akers, 70, Fort Morgan, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the Colorado Plains Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1937, in Potosi, MO, to Fred & Hattie Akers. After graduating from High School, Fred joined the US Marine Corp in 1955. Following his discharge from the Marine Corp, Fred later joined the US Air Force. He retired from his military career after serving over 21 years. On January 20, 1960, Fred married Anna Bailey in Potosi, MO. In 1999 the Akers moved to Fort Morgan. Fred enjoyed reading, woodworking, yard work, and being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Anna, of Fort Morgan; 1 daughter, JoAnn Harrison of Denver; 3 sons, Jerry of Brighton, Bryon of Lakewood, and Jeff of Denver; 1 brother, Bill of Potosi, MO; 3 sisters, Annabel Patterson of Mineral Point, MO, Dorothy Andrews of St. Louis, MO, and Mamie Wigger of Potosi, MO; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 1 sister, and his parents. A memorial service will be held at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 1:00 PM. The service will conclude at the mortuary. Private inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
