GAIL A. SPRINGER, 84, of Fort Morgan, died early Tuesday morning, February 19, 2008 at Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. He was born May 1, 1923 in Waterville, KS to Gerald & Ruth (Anderson) Springer. Springer grew up on a farm during the depression. After graduating from high school he joined the Army in April of 1943 and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He served in Durham, NC, and overseas in England, Belgium, and Germany. He was in combat in the Hurtipan Forest, Battle of The Bulge, and the Rhineland. After his discharge from the service, Springer worked in the construction business for a short time before doing upholstery work, which he continued to do for over 50 years. He married Norma Kestler on October 3, 1949 in Sterling. Mr. Springer was member of the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan, the V.F.W. Post 2551, and was a Charter Member of the Morgan County Ambulance Service, serving for 17 years. Survivors include his wife, Norma Springer of Fort Morgan; his daughter, Jeannie Springer of Littleton, CO; three sisters, Elaine Randel of Overland Park, KS, Lola Zabokrtsky of Barns, KS, and Marianne Spano of Topeka, KS; four brothers, Neil Springer and Larry Springer, both of Grand Junction, CO, Keith Springer of Topeka, KS, and Lee Springer of Wilmington, IL; and two grandchildren, Amy Tacker of San Jose, CA and Lee Tacker OF Laveen, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Max Springer. Funeral services will be Monday, February 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery Staging Area "A", Denver, CO. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701, or to the charity of the donor's choice. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of arrangements.
