Gary Arthur Hodgson was born December 27, 1946 in Boulder, Colorado to Lester and Cleora Previtt Hodgson. Gary's family has always been in Agriculture and loved going to Rodeos so it was only natural for Gary to be a 'cowboy' from an early age. They also encouraged him to go to college at CSU where he became not only a teacher but an advocate for Agriculture.

From an early age Gary began working at livestock auctions with the final one being Livestock Exchange in Brush, Colorado. Later, in addition to ranching with wife, Sue, he became a cattleman doing a radio broadcast, Livestock News Network, that was fed to radio stations in ten states for over 36 years, including Fort Morgan station KFTM.

Gary also began writing a weekly contemporary rural humor column that was carried in publications throughout the United States, including a stint in the Denver Post. Many of the columns published into three books, Cattle Country Kids, Under The Wire and Just Barely Under The Wire.

He also wrote serious Agricultural articles for publications.

Gary began rodeoing when he was a child, entering local junior and fair events in the Fort Collins area. That love of rodeo continued throughout his life. Gary roped locally in Fort Morgan and Brush but also traveled throughout the United States roping calves, team roping and ribbon roping with Sue. Gary roped in many different associations, ending with the Senior Pro Circuit. He never said he retired but just didn't get around to entering!

Gary's parents moved to Fort Collins area when he was a child so he and his sister, Pamela, attended elementary, junior high and high school there. Gary was active in music, playing the saxophone and very active in sports, i.e. track where he set records, football and ending with a wrestling scholarship to CSU.

While in High School Gary met Carol Davis and they married in June 1967.  From their marriage came daughter Stacy Hodgson and daughter Jeri Hodgson.

Gary asked her 5 times and got her family's approval before marrying Sue Carnahan Johnson in Brush, Colorado April 25, 1987, bringing into his life son David and daughter Jessica Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue of Brush,  Gary's favorite and only sibling, Pam Trost and husband Ken of Rupert, Idaho and her family.  Also Gary's Carnahan family who adopted him.

Daughter Stacy Hodgson,  Daughter Jeri Hodgson Brighton, Colorado, Son David (Kathy) Johnson, Brush, Daughter Jessica (Kevin) Hansen, Topeka, Kansas.

Grandson Tristan( Monte) Teter preceded him in 2024. Surviving Grandchildren include Lane Teter, Kayleigh Kochevar, Hannah DeWolf, Bailey Hansen, Charles Fleuter, Mae Fleuter, JR (Stacy) Higgins, Shelly Terrill, Casey (Jacque) Higgins.

He also has 12 Great-grandchildren, and other affectively called "Bonus children and grandchildren".

One of Gary's favorite sayings and what was under his high school yearbook photo "It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time".
