Obituary

Gayland E. Coup passed away February 26, 2024 in Fort Morgan. He was born on June 22, 1931, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Lucile (Jasper) and Earl Coup. He was the fourth of five children, including his siblings Eleanor, Shirley, Frank "Clifton", and Ruth.

Growing up on the family farm in Snyder, Gayland developed a deep love for the outdoors. He married Peggy L. Meier on April 28, 1957, and together they had three children: Kurt, Lori, and Sheila.

Gayland's passions included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an active member of a saddle club and 4-H, but his heart truly belonged to team roping and calf roping. Gayland also enjoyed cooking, reading, and history. His storytelling ability was well known among family and friends.

His faith and family were central to his life. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan. For nearly two decades, he delivered Meals on Wheels, demonstrating his commitment to taking care of others.  Gayland's caring nature extended to his loved ones. He cared for his mother, mother-in-law, sister, and wife with unwavering devotion.

Gayland is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Eleanor, Shirley, Frank "Clifton" and Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Kurt (Diana) Coup, Lori (Keith) Jameson, and Sheila (Tom) Reagan; grandchildren, Amy, Tiffany, Haley, and Heather; and six great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan at 10:00 AM, followed by inurnment at Serenity Falls in Fort Morgan.
