Gene M. Campbell Jr. was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado on September 24, 1944. His parents were DeAlpha (Turvey) and Gene M. Campbell Sr. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1962. He attended Colorado State University, and Northeastern Junior College, and later graduated from Colorado State College (UNC) in Greeley with a BA in History and Mathematics.

While attending UNC, he met his future wife, Janis Westerberg. They were married on March 21, 1969, in Denver. They returned to Gene's hometown of Fort Morgan to teach. Gene taught math at Fort Morgan Junior High and later at Fort Morgan High School. He taught for 31 years and retired in 2001.

In retirement, Janis and Gene enjoyed traveling. His favorite places were the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Mt. McKinley in Alaska, and the Panama Canal.

Gene had various hobbies including coin and military patch collecting. He was an avid history and trivia buff. He enjoyed golfing and watching old black-and-white movies from the heyday of the motion picture industry. He was also a true Bronco fan.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and former co-workers.

He is survived by his wife, Janis of 55 years; three children, Jerilyn Campbell of Fort Morgan, Seth Campbell of Greeley, and Levi (Erynn) Campbell of Littleton; his two precious grandchildren, Brady and Lyla; his sister, Amber (Kraig) of Craig, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews and their spouses and children.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
