Obituary

Gene V. "Doc" Wilcoxen, 93, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2022, at Lutheran (Collier) Hospice in Wheatridge, Colorado.  He was born January 5, 1929 to Thomas J. and Katherine M. Wilcoxen. He had four siblings, Margaret, Wayne, Lorene and Jerry, all who have preceded him in death.

Doc was raised in Idalia CO and received his high school education in Wray, CO graduating in 1946.  He received a four- year football scholarship to the University of Colorado, but instead chose to farm and ranch in his hometown of Wray.  The challenges of mother nature eventually led him to seek a more financially stable career. While working fulltime at Noble Cisco, Doc attended night school in Denver for 10 years and became a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) in 1966.

Doc met his wife, Harryette "Jonesie" Jones, a student nurse at St. Lukes Hospital in Denver while she was caring for his ill father.  In 1950, they were married and spent 70 years as husband and wife.

Doc worked as an accountant at Arapahoe Oil Drilling, Denver, Accounting Manager at Lockwood Corporation, Gering NE and Woodland CA, Controller at Century Housing, Ft Morgan CO, and Controller – Treasurer at Mohrlang Manufacturing, Brush CO.

He was an active member in the Episcopal church serving as treasurer, junior warden, vestry member and usher at the various parishes he attended.  He was a member of the board of directors at Bunker Hill Country Club in Brush CO and received an honorary lifetime membership.

Doc was a member of the Wray Masonic Lodge for 65 years and a member of the Elks Lodge.  Doc was a gentle, quiet soul with an infectious smile who was always willing to help.  Duct tape and Gorilla Glue were his constant companions.  He loved to dance including square, round, jitterbug and clogging.

Doc is survived by his two daughters, Dawn (George) Veniegas, Robin (Allan) Davis; grandchildren, Derek (Kathy) Otero, Mandy (Nathan) Davenport, Mallory Davis Salas, Marissa Mitchell; and four great grandchildren.
