George A. Brening, 76, life resident of the Brush community, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center following a short illness. He was born April 7, 1935, to Henry & Anna Brening on the family farm just south of Brush. George graduated from Brush High School in 1954. On November 4, 1956, he married Mable Pabst in Brush. George was a member of Elks Lodge #1143, former board member and past president of the Brush Rural Fire District, and board member of the Upper Platte & Beaver Ditch Company. He collected and restored antique tractors, especially John Deere tractors and enjoyed antique tractor pulling competitions. He was also a member of NCATP. He enjoyed going to farm sales. Survivors include his wife, Mable of Brush; 2 children, Pam Martin and her husband Gary, of Windsor, CO and Dwane Brening and his wife, Carrie, of Brush; 1 brother, Chuck of Arizona; 1 sister, Maryann Walter of Brush; 4 grandchildren, Travis, Jyll, Camrin, and Kodi; and 5 great grandchildren, Taylor, Jayde, Marschal, Nolan, and Larkyn. He was preceded in death by 1 brother Harold, 1 sister, Helen Kauffman, and his parents. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Congregational Church in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush on Wednesday from 5 – 7 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Foundation c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
