George Julius Emerick, 89, passed away under Hospice care at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center on August 16, 2016. He was born on April 26, 1927 in White River, SD to Paul and Elsie Laura Emerick.
George served in the US Army in Korea during WWII. He married Marvella Van Buren in 1952. The Emerick's lived in Custer, SD for a short time until George's employer transferred him to Wyoming and then Colorado. George was a great family man and a loving father. He and Marvella raised three children together.
George owned and operated his own truck and auto repair shop in Fort Morgan for many years, and then worked as a mechanic for local companies in Morgan County later in life. George was a social, active man who was deeply involved in his church for most of his life. He loved horses, singing, dancing, playing bridge, old cars, and taking road trips with the family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good story. The Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington DC to view the war memorials was a highlight in his later years.
George is survived by his wife, Marvella of Fort Morgan; his daughter, Susanne of Fort Collins, CO; daughter, Cheryl and Frank of Aurora, CO; son, Brad and Stephanie of Fort Collins, CO; two sisters, Juanita Kiser and Evelyn Hayes; six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph Emerick and Charles Wilsey, and three sisters, Laura Mae Schluter, Fern Johnson, and Wilma Pinkal.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan, with interment and military honors to follow immediately with burial at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Trinity Lutheran Church of Fort Morgan, Cheyenne VA Medical Center, CLC Hospice, 2360 E Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne WY, 82001 or the Colorado Horse Rescue, 10386 N. 65th St., Longmont, CO 80503.
