George Wambolt, 91, formerly of Fort Morgan, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Emerald Grove Central Care Center in Mesa, Arizona. George was born December 22, 1922 in Fort Morgan to George and Marie (Foos) Wambolt. He attended schools in Fort Morgan and Brush, CO after which he engaged in farming with his father. During WWII he served with the 172nd General Hospital in China, and in Burma, and the theater of operations in India, where he received the Bronze Star. After the war he returned to farming. In 1948 he was employed by the Morgan County REA as a lineman and also worked in the meter department before becoming a serviceman with REA. George married Frances Ruth Schaaf on March 28, 1948, and to this union one daughter, Sheri Lynn was born on November 27, 1959. She passed away in September of 1960. George was a life member of the local Elks Lodge #1143, and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife Frances of Mesa, Arizona, and sisters, Betty Pabst, Dorothy Emhovick. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Ronald, sisters, Martha Kress, Esther Ochs, Emma Baker, Rachel Simmons, Mary Geist, and his parents. At his request, no funeral services will be held. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Memorial Gifts may be made to the Colorado State University Foundation for Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
