Obituary

George Alvin Whitney, age 91 of Brush, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Eben-Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. Mr. Whitney was born February 22, 1918 in Riverdale, NE to Chester A. and Ethel M. (Baird) Whitney. On September 23, 1941 he married Ruby Ottosen in Chappel, Nebraska. The Whitney's moved to Morgan County in 1963 from Crook. Mr. Whitney was a farmer and rancher and loved working with his livestock. When he was a younger man he farmed with horses. He also operated one of the first beet toppers, a Marbeet Topper, in the area. George was a member of the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. Survivors include his wife Ruby of Brush; 3 daughters, Georgia Kauffman and Bonnie Larsen both of Brush and Gwen Hein of Crook, CO; one son, Lee Whitney of Wray, CO; two brothers, Harley Whitney of Washington, and Wendell Whitney of New Mexico, one sister Nadine Todd of Washington, 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Kevin Larsen and step-grandson E. J. Breidenbach. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to either the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush or to the Eben-Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.
