Georgia Lee Hultquist passed away Sunday, October 13, 2026.
Georgia was born on October 3, 1926, to George V. Doty and Goldie A. Doty, the second of 12 children. She rode horseback with her brother Gene to the Wildcat Country School. She graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1944.
Georgia was baptized in the First Christian Church in 1946. In 1947 she was named Cherry Pie Queen for Colorado, winning a trip to Chicago to compete in the national contest. With Carmen Johnson as her chaperon, Georgia won 2nd place with her cherry pie.
In 1948 Georgia married Carl Hultquist and they had two daughters, Karla and Katherine.
In 1991, Georgia retired from the Morgan County Department of Human Services. After retirement she devoted her time to volunteering to several organizations including Morgan County Cares, Hospice, and Grief Support. She also made baby blankets for the hospital.
Georgia was a charter member of the DOES, VFW Auxiliary and the First Christian Church. In 2008 she received the Angel Among Us Award, and in 2009, she received the Community Service Award by the Morgan County Board of Realtors.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; five brothers, Gene, Dale, Donald, Larry and Burke Doty; two sisters, Shirley Kula and Joyce Ogden; and her daughter, Karla Buxman.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Hultquist and son-in-law, Alan Vahrenkamp; son-in-law, Bob Buxman; grandson, Jeremy (Cheri) Buxman; great grandchildren, Raven and Tucker; her brother, Kenny Doty; sisters, Udella McConnell and Lorie Wageman, and many nieces and nephews.
Faith and family were central to Georgia’s life. She enjoyed dancing, bridge, dominoes, volunteer work and traveling with her two daughters - a trip every year together after Carl died in 2003. Georgia's favorite saying was ''this too shall pass.'' Georgia was kind, resilient, hardworking, generous and enjoyed life. Today we hope you celebrate her life with joy and happiness as we honor who she was and all that she contributed.
Georgia's Celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 7th at 10:30am at the First Christian Church, 225 W Bijou Ave. in Fort Morgan.
Memorial Donations may be made in her name to the First Christian Church.
