Glenn W. Weitzel 89, longtime resident of Ft. Morgan died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the Valley View Villa Care Center in Ft. Morgan. He was born September 4, 1916 in Denver, Colorado to Louis and Anna (Schlitt) Weitzel. He moved with his family from Otis, Colorado to Ft. Morgan when he was eleven years old and has lived here ever since. Glenn was an active member of the Christ Congregational Church in Ft. Morgan serving as Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, Moderator of the Church and as a delegate from his church to various conferences. He served his country in the US Army and was a life member of the local VFW Post 2551. Glenn liked feeding the birds and enjoyed taking care of his garden. He grew both vegetables and flowers and was especially proud of his glads and zinnias. Survivors include his wife Lydia of Ft. Morgan, one daughter, Glenda Weitzel of Greeley, three sons, Jim Weitzel of Eaton, Will Weitzel of Greeley and Bob Weitzel of Berthoud, two brothers, Melvin Weitzel and Eugene Weitzel both of Ft. Morgan, three sisters, Margaret Olin of Denver, Hannah Madsen of Montrose and Ruth Walker of Greeley, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Donald, Harold and Raymond Weitzel and one sister, Helen Weitzel. Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 10:00 am at the Christ Congregational Church in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 23rd from 12 noon until 8:00 pm at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts in Glenn's name to the charity of their choice.
