Gloria Sue Bartlett Schaefer, 86, passed away Monday, Dec 11th, 2023, at the Grace Pointe Senior Care Community, following a three-month illness. She was born December 1st, 1937, in Bird City KS, to Wilbur and Edith Bartlett.
Sue grew up and attended school in Bird City, Kansas. She was very active assisting her parents (she was an excellent tractor driver) on the family farm outside of Bird City and graduated from Bird City High School in 1955. Sue attended Central Business College in Denver Colorado, focusing on business administration. She ultimately became an executive assistant working at Martin Marietta in the rocket business in the 60's and early 70's.
Sue Bartlett and Jarry Schaefer were introduced by mutual friends from Fort Morgan and were married on August 14, 1971, in Denver. Sue and Jarry were married for 45 years, residing in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Recently, Sue has lived at the Good Samaritan Senior Living facility in Windsor, CO since 2021.
Sue was very involved in the Fort Morgan community, volunteering for many causes like the Military Museum. She was active in her PEO women's group, Friday Club, as well as the Hyperion Club for many years. Sue and Jarry were members of the Platte Valley Festival Band for 25 years. Sue was an active member of the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church, served on and chaired numerous committees, participated with the drama program, and sang in the chancel choir.
Survivors include Brad (Tara) of Chandler, AZ; Beth Wallace of Norfolk, VA; Barry (Kelli) of Greeley, CO; grandchildren Collin (Morgan), Courtney (Alvaro), Kelsey, Camille, Chase, Jenna, Katelyn, great-granddaughter Quinn, and great-grandson Nolan. She is also survived by her sisters, Marj Kramer of Denver, CO; Karel Clift of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Connie (Dave) Turner of Greeley, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Edith Bartlett, brother Bruce Bartlett, and the love of her life, Jarry.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church. The service will conclude at the Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Serenity Falls Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Sue Schaefer Memorial Fund c/o the Heer Mortuary.
