Longtime Brush resident, Gloria Herrera, went to walk with the Lord early Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver.  On October 25, 1953 she was born to Harry & Mary Herrera.  She was the sixth of eight children.  Later in her years she met and married Jose Ignacio Torrez.  They were blessed with two children, Martin Torrez and Yolanda Torrez.

Gloria followed her hardworking parents in working in the agriculture industry.  She worked sorting potatoes and working the sugar beets.  She also enjoyed working the dairy farm as well as Read's Poultry, working the chickens.  Another one of her many jobs was being a housekeeper at the Brush Hospital, then a nanny/housekeeper in Denver, Colorado.

Gloria never said "NO" to watching her grandkids.  They remembered Nana taking them to the park.  Nana always did whatever activity came her way by way of her grandkids, some of which were going down slides, swinging on swings, swimming, playing ball, and "Sneaky Nana" playing hide-n-seek.  They loved being tickled by Nana, but most of all, nothing could end the night better and more comforting than a special prayer led by Nana.

Gloria was a very devoted Christian and super obedient to God's word, testifying to her saved and unsaved friends and family. It was important to Gloria that her friends and family needed to be saved and walk with God's word, plus doing God's work.  She was dedicated to her family.  She loved playing cards and having a late night rummy night, which she seemed to win almost every time.  She spent time sewing, and most of all loved helping others with whatever they needed help with.

Mom's specialty was cooking her world-famous enchiladas!! They weren't complete unless they were made with her homemade tortillas.  She tried teaching us how to make them, letting us play with the dough and giving Yolanda half the dough to eat.  Mom would make Marty as many dozen that he would ask for, upon request.  One thing she never forgot was making a miniature tortilla for the younger kids.  We tried duplicating her enchiladas and tortillas, but they never came out as perfect as hers.  That was the kind love that she put into everything she touched.

Mom could always make anyone's day brighter with her infectious laugh and cute sayings, like "Ummm'ver", "Umm Just Checking", and "Aye-Aye-Aye".  But most of all when you would back her up on something she would always come back with "I don't know, nobody told me".  You just couldn't help but laugh with her.

Gloria (Mom) will be deeply missed by her kids Martin Torrez of Brush, CO and Yolanda (Freddy) Torrez of Fort Collins, CO, along with her grandkids Micheal & Brianna Torrez, both of Kansas City, KS, and Adrian, Alex, Alexis, and Andreaus Torrez all of Fort Collins, CO.  She is survived by her brothers, Nelson, Manuel, and Gilbert Herrera; sisters Tina Fiegel and Josie Garcia.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry & Mary Herrera, brother Lorenzo Herrera, and sister Gloria-Sofia Herrera.

A memorial service will be held June 18 ^th at 10:00 AM on the northside of the Brush Memorial Cemetery at the Interment Chapel (gazebo).  Seating will be held for the first 40 family members.  Chairs would be advised to avoid tiresome standing.
