Gordon passed away in his home Friday, July 22, 2022 surrounded by his family.  He was born to Orbra (O.B.) and Dorothy (Harshman) Ledford on August 7, 1939 in Fort Morgan.  Gordon grew up and attended school in Wiggins, Colorado, playing sports and graduating in 1957.  He attended the University of Northern Colorado on a basketball scholarship and in June of 1959 married his love, Amy Youngblood.  They were married for 63 years.

Gordon served in the Navy for four years and was stationed at Quonset Point in Rhode Island. While aboard the USS Lake Champlain, he participated in returning two astronauts from splash down in the ocean, as well as, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

Gordon graduated from UNC with a bachelor's of science degree in 1971. He had a long career with Buick Chevrolet, then owned two businesses in Fort Morgan for many years, while also farming south of Wiggins on the land homesteaded by his great uncle in the early 1900's.  Gordon was also a member of the Masonic Temple and was a 33 ^rd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.  He was a lifetime member of Elks BPOE and the VFW.

Gordon enjoyed spending time with family, playing softball, farming and carpentry work.  He was well respected in the community and was a good friend to many.  He was also a great father and mentor, a great leader, teacher, and a hard worker.  He played the piano by ear and could be found many days playing one song after another to the pleasure of anyone listening.  Gordon could tell great stories of the happenings of his life and enjoyed telling good jokes.

Gordon was an amazing athlete with a lifetime love of baseball and softball, and bowling. He was a fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. Gordon played left field with two teams, The Dirty Dozen and Scrap Iron.  He could catch anything, he hit home runs, and he was named MVP multiple times.  His senior softball team won five national championships and he played ball well into his late seventies, traveling across the country to different tournaments.  Gordon played competitively for over 50 years.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Amy, of 63 years; children, Suzanna (Doug) Dobbins, Bryan (Desiree Cooper) Ledford, Dianna (Tim) Jones; three grandsons, Patrick (Bessy) Ledford, Kyle (Stephanie) Ledford, and Daniel (Anna) Olson; six great-grandchildren, Joelly, Emma, Huxton, Winston, Riggston, and Madeleine; brothers, Lester (Ruth) Ledford and Steve (Barbara) Ledford; and nephew and niece and Timothy and Jennesee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Inez Youngblood; and his great-grandson Wyatt Ledford.

A memorial service will be held Thursday August 25, 2022 at Platte Valley Baptist Church at 10:30AM.
